Sri Lanka Air Force Corporal D.M.D.M. Dassanayake has set a new world record in the Hack Lift event at the 13th World Strength Lifting Championship 2026, held in Kyrgyzstan from September 7 to 11.
Competing in the Under 95 kg weight category, Corporal Dassanayake lifted 260 kilograms, setting a new world record in the event and delivering a record-breaking performance for Sri Lanka.
He returned to the country on September 15 and was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
A second reception was held at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda on September 23 to honour his achievement. The event was led by Air Commodore Sanoj Jayarathne, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Air Force Weightlifting Pool, together with members of the Air Force weightlifting fraternity.
The Sri Lanka Air Force said Corporal Dassanayake’s achievement reflects his dedication, discipline, perseverance and commitment to excellence, bringing honour to the Air Force and Sri Lanka.
