Holy Family Convent’s Under-20 girls’ basketball team clinched the National School All Island Under-20 Basketball Championship after defeating Mahamaya Girls’ School 45–28 in the final held at the Royal Indoor Complex in Colombo.
Holy Family Convent produced a strong performance throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten on their way to the championship.
In the pre-quarterfinals, Holy Family Convent defeated Hillwood College 54–21. They continued their winning run in the quarterfinals with a commanding 35–9 victory over Holy Family Convent, Wennappuwa.
In the semifinals, the team secured a 45–32 victory over Holy Family Convent, Jaffna, booking their place in the championship final.
Holy Family Convent then delivered another impressive performance in the final, overcoming Mahamaya Girls’ School 45–28 to secure the All Island Under-20 title.
Binuthi Jayasinghe was named the Most Valuable Player of the Match for her outstanding performance in the final.
The championship-winning squad comprised Captain Senuthmi Fernando, Vice Captain Venessa Fernando, Amaya Henry, Binuthi Jayasinghe, Misheni Perera, Minali Silva and Minulie Dabarera.
The team was coached by Shane Daniel, Randima Sooriyaarachchi and Chamath Gimhana, with Ms. Uthpali Premachandra serving as Teacher-in-Charge. The team was led by Principal Rev. Sr. Charitha Thandalge.
