Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath is scheduled to leave for New York today (26) to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit will provide an opportunity to present Sri Lanka’s voice on the global stage while strengthening the country’s diplomatic relations.
Representing Sri Lanka at the General Assembly, Minister Herath is scheduled to deliver Sri Lanka’s national statement on September 28.
He is expected to outline Sri Lanka’s current foreign policy priorities and the country’s position on key global issues before the international community.
The Foreign Ministry said the visit will extend beyond the General Assembly address, providing opportunities to strengthen bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations.
During the previous UN General Assembly session, Minister Herath held discussions with international partners on trade, investment, tourism and multilateral institutions.
The Ministry said this year’s visit is also expected to serve as an opportunity to connect Sri Lanka’s economic interests with its diplomatic priorities.
