United States President Donald Trump welcomes China’s President Xi Jinping at the White House in Washington, DC, for an official state visit.
Trump says that today’s meetings “can promote peace and prosperity for decades and decades to come”.
The trip is the first time the Chinese president has visited the White House in more than a decade, and it comes as trade tensions spiked at the beginning of Trump’s second term.
The main issues set to be discussed include AI, Taiwan and the war in Iran, with China’s top diplomat in the US saying the country’s sovereignty, security and development rights are “red lines”.
