Sri Lanka Police have launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows an 11-year-old child using drugs.
The Police Children and Women Bureau initiated the investigation following the circulation of the video online.
Acting on the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police Darshika Kumari, a team led by Chief Inspector Nimali Fonseka and Inspector Kandeepan located the child at a house on Sumedha Mawatha in Ganemulla on September 18.
Police said the child was found in an unsafe environment and was taken into protective custody.
The child was subsequently brought to the Children and Women Bureau along with the child's mother.
Police said further action would be taken to ensure the child's welfare, safety and protection.
