MP Namal Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations of accepting a Rs. 100 million bribe in connection with a transaction involving the purchase of Airbus aircraft, has been ordered to be further remanded till September 29 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S Bodaragama today.
The Magistrate directed the defence counsel to file a written bail application on September 22 and directed the Bribery Commission, the complainant in the case, to file its objections by September 25.
The Magistrate informed that the bail order would be delivered on September 29.
Colombo Chief Magistrate issued the order after considering submissions made by Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, who appeared on behalf of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, and President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando, who appeared on behalf of the suspect.
