National List Member of Parliament M.S. Abdul Wahid has resigned from Parliament, effective today (14).

Abdul Wahid, who represents the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, formally submitted his resignation to Acting Secretary-General of Parliament Hansa Abeyratne.

In a letter to the Chairman of the Election Commission, Abeyratne confirmed that Abdul Wahid had resigned from his position as an MP with effect from September 14.

The Acting Secretary-General subsequently informed the Election Commission that a vacancy has arisen in the Tenth Parliament.

The notification was issued in accordance with Section 64(5) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981.
