Former Mrs. Sri Lanka Pushpika De Silva says she has forgiven all those involved in the controversial incident at the 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant, following a court ruling that acquitted and released the defendants, including Jurie and Chula.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered the acquittal of former Mrs. World Caroline Jurie and model Chula Padmendra in a case filed against them over an incident in which the crown worn by 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka winner Pushpika de Silva was allegedly forcibly removed, causing injuries to her.
Speaking to the media after the verdict, Pushpika said she respected the decision of the court and held no hatred or ill feelings towards those involved.
She said she had never sought financial compensation for the damage to her reputation or the injustice she experienced during the incident. Instead, she said her only expectation throughout the legal proceedings had been an acknowledgment of wrongdoing and a formal apology.
Pushpika also said that one of the parties involved in the case had since passed away, further reinforcing her decision to let go of any resentment.
She said she had already forgiven those responsible on the day of the incident in April 2021.
Looking back on the controversy, Pushpika said she considers the experience a life lesson and remains confident that truth and justice will ultimately prevail.
She said she is now focused on moving forward and pursuing her future endeavours.
