The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning warning for several areas of Sri Lanka, effective from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today (14).
The warning covers the Eastern, Uva, North Central, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Vavuniya, Mannar, Mullaitivu and Kurunegala districts.
According to the advisory, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy lightning are likely in the affected areas, particularly during the evening and night.
Temporary strong winds may also occur during thunderstorms, posing a risk of weather-related incidents.
The public in the affected areas is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms. Authorities also urged residents to follow official weather updates and safety instructions.
