President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says it was the farming community that gave the strength needed to end corrupt politics and establish a government that understands the hardships and struggles faced by the people.

The President made these remarks while addressing a farmers’ rally held in Polonnaruwa as part of the “Two Years of Our Government, A Brighter Future for the Country” public rally series.

President Dissanayake said the government he leads was handed a country where almost everything had come to a standstill. He stressed that the government has taken all necessary measures to revive the country and put it back on a strong path of progress.

The farmers’ rally was held at the Deepa Uyana premises in front of the Parakrama Samudraya on the Polonnaruwa–Batticaloa main road, under the patronage of President Dissanayake.

A large number of farmers from the Polonnaruwa area participated in the event.

One of the main objectives of the rally was to brief the farming community on the progressive measures implemented by the current government for farmers over the past two years, as well as future initiatives planned for the agricultural sector.

Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe and Deputy Minister T.B. Sarath also addressed the rally before President Dissanayake delivered his speech.
