Sri Lanka Police have warned the public of a scam involving a fake website designed to resemble the GOV PAY platform used to pay traffic fines online.
Police said scammers are sending links to the fraudulent website via SMS and WhatsApp messages in an attempt to steal money and sensitive personal information from the public.
The police stressed that there is no separate website for making traffic-fine payments through GOV PAY, and urged the public not to click on suspicious links or provide personal or financial information through such platforms.
The GOV PAY system was introduced earlier this year to make it easier for the public to pay traffic fines while helping reduce financial fraud.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic, W. P. J. Senadheera, urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to the fraudulent websites.
