The inaugural ceremony of the Gampaha Literary Festival, themed “In Search of the Cultural Citizen,” was held today (September 4) at the Yakkala Sub-Office premises of the Gampaha Municipal Council.
The event was inaugurated under the patronage of Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, and Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe.
The festival has been organized in line with the government’s national policy vision of “A Rich Country – A Beautiful Life,” with the aim of fostering a cultural renaissance within Sri Lankan society.
The three-day festival features literary and cultural programmes covering poetry, music, cinema, theatre, and various forms of prose and poetry. It also includes a series of scholarly literary discussion forums and numerous book exhibition stalls.
The Gampaha Literary Festival will be held from September 4 to 6, from 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. daily at the Yakkala Sub-Office premises of the Gampaha Municipal Council.
Deputy Minister Muneer Mulaffer, Members of Parliament Hemali Weerasekara, Ruwan Mapalagama and Lasith Bashana, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Arts Council Keerthi Welisarage, Gampaha Mayor Eric Ediriwickrama, municipal councillors, artists and a large number of government officials also attended the opening ceremony.
Awards and certificates were also presented to students who emerged victorious in the inter-school literary competition during the inauguration of the festival.
