The Government plans to allocate a record Rs. 2,000 billion for development projects and capital expenditure in 2027, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
The Minister made the remarks while inaugurating the construction of 17 new houses under the new housing project in the Palindanuwara, Mohamadivatta and Pelanda areas.
Each house, including the necessary infrastructure facilities, will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 3.4 million.
The project is expected to provide relief to 17 families who have been living in high-risk conditions and without permanent housing for nearly nine years.
Meanwhile, housing assistance cheques were also presented under the second phase of the “A Place of Our Own, A Beautiful Life” housing assistance programme to beneficiaries in Palindanuwara who do not have permanent homes.
Members of Parliament Sanjeewa Ranasinghe and Dhanushka Rangana also participated in the event.
Meanwhile, Minister Professor Chandana Abeyratne said the country could be developed within a short period if the Government, public sector machinery and communities work together.
He made the remarks during the commencement of a new housing project at Halmillagolla Estate in the Karuwalagaswewa Divisional Secretariat Division for families whose homes were damaged by the Ditwa disaster.
Under the project, new houses valued at Rs. 5 million each will be constructed for 49 families from the Saliya Wewa, Moonamalgas Wewa and Pahala Puliyankulama Grama Niladhari Divisions whose houses were completely destroyed by the disaster.
The beneficiaries will also receive ownership of 20-perch plots of land allocated to each family.
