The Department of Meteorology has warned that the heat index, or the temperature felt by the human body, may reach the “Attention” level in several areas of the North Central and Eastern Provinces, as well as in parts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Monaragala and Hambantota districts.
The advisory, issued at 4.00 p.m. today (03), will remain valid until 4.00 p.m. tomorrow (04).
The Department has urged the public in the affected areas to take precautions to minimise the potential impact of the heat on their health.
People are advised to drink sufficient water and rest in shaded areas whenever possible. Elderly and sick individuals are urged to pay special attention to the prevailing conditions.
The Department has also advised the public not to leave young children unattended inside vehicles and to limit strenuous activities.
