Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at the Tashichhodzong in Thimphu on Wednesday, during her official visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan.

The meeting focused on Bhutan’s future development priorities and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Bhutan and Sri Lanka.

King Jigme Khesar expressed Bhutan’s interest in drawing on Sri Lanka’s experience and expertise in areas relevant to the country’s development plans. The discussions also explored opportunities to promote investment between the two countries, including the possibility of establishing an investment zone in Bhutan.

The two sides also discussed demographic challenges facing Bhutan, particularly the increasing migration of young people and its potential impact on the country’s population and future workforce.

The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices to support the sustainable development of both countries.

The discussions formed part of Prime Minister Amarasuriya’s official visit to Bhutan, aimed at further strengthening relations and identifying new areas of cooperation between the two nations.
