Sri Lanka is set to introduce a fully digital system for the payment of traffic fines from September, allowing fines imposed for motor vehicle offences to be settled exclusively through online platforms.

The necessary arrangements for implementing the system have been completed, according to a statement issued by the President’s Media Division following a review meeting on projects being implemented by the Ministry of Digital Economy for 2026.

The meeting was chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.

The discussions also covered plans to issue Sri Lanka’s Digital National Identity Card later this year, marking another major step in the country’s digital transformation programme.

According to the President’s Media Division, President Dissanayake instructed officials to give special attention to establishing information technology services across the public sector as a nationwide service.

The initiative is intended to strengthen support for the Government’s digital transformation programme while improving the technological capabilities of State institutions.

The Government is continuing to expand digital services across the public sector as part of efforts to modernise government operations and provide citizens with more efficient and accessible services.
