The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) recorded notable growth, according to economic data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka last week.

The All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose by 1.18% to 21,623.17 points, while the S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index increased by 1.30% to 6,065.72 points.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan rupee recorded a 7.1% depreciation against the US dollar on a year-to-date basis.

In the domestic financial market, the Average Weighted Prime Lending Rate (AWPR) offered by commercial banks to their prime customers increased by 19 basis points from the previous week, reaching 10.95%.

The Central Bank also reported that the Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 0.8% in June, reaching 99.2.

The growth in industrial production was mainly driven by the food products sector, which recorded a 6.8% increase, and the non-metallic mineral products sector, which grew by 7.2%.

The latest figures indicate mixed developments in Sri Lanka's financial and industrial sectors, with the stock market showing positive momentum while the rupee continued to face depreciation pressure against the US dollar.
