The General Membership of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) today unanimously passed a resolution opposing the proposed amendment to increase the retirement age of judges.

The General Membership of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) today unanimously passed a resolution opposing the proposed amendment to increase the retirement age of judges.

The BASL convened a Special General Meeting in Colombo today (29) to discuss the government’s proposal and determine the association’s response.

BASL President, Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya, said the meeting focused on the implications of the proposed amendment and the steps to be taken by the association.

Following discussions, members unanimously resolved to strongly oppose the proposed increase in the retirement age of judges.
