Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces during the next 24 hours, according to the latest weather forecast.
Showers are also likely at times in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts, while mainly dry weather is expected to prevail across the rest of the island.
The Department of Meteorology has also warned of strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Puttalam districts.
Marine Forecast
A few showers are expected in the sea areas off the coast stretching from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
South-westerly winds are forecast at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, with wind speeds expected to increase to 50 to 60 km/h at times in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Winds may also reach 50 km/h in the waters extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai, and from Galle to Hambantota.
Sea conditions are expected to be rough at times in the waters off the coast from Hambantota to Pottuvil, while seas from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai, and from Galle to Hambantota, will be fairly rough.
Wave heights are forecast to increase to around 2.0 to 2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Authorities have advised fishermen and those engaged in marine activities to remain vigilant and exercise caution due to the expected strong winds and rough sea conditions.
