Customs Narcotics Control Unit officers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) have arrested a 54-year-old Angolan woman after finding 237 grams of cocaine worth over Rs. 10 million in her possession.

The suspect had reportedly travelled from Angola to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, before arriving in Sri Lanka via Doha, Qatar.

According to customs officials, the woman attracted the attention of officers after she was seen moving through the airport terminal in a wheelchair after disembarking from the aircraft.

During questioning, the suspect voluntarily handed over 14 pellets containing cocaine. She also reportedly admitted to swallowing several more pellets, which are now the subject of further investigations.

The Customs Narcotics Control Unit is continuing investigations into the incident.
