Sri Lanka's National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has launched a special dengue prevention and control program today (July 13), covering 60 high-risk dengue zones across the country.According to the NDCU, 23 of the identified high-risk zones are located in the Western Province, highlighting the region's continued vulnerability to dengue outbreaks.
Consultant Community Physician Dr. Prashila Samaraweera of the National Dengue Control Unit said the primary objective of the program is to intensify dengue prevention and vector control activities in the identified high-risk areas in order to curb the spread of the disease.
So far this year, Sri Lanka has recorded 68,071 dengue cases nationwide, while the number of dengue-related deaths has risen to 47, underscoring the urgent need for strengthened public health interventions.
