Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni said that the government has initiated legal procedures to return the Ambuluwawa biodiversity complex and reserve to the public.

Speaking to the media, the Deputy Minister said that while the current administration strictly refrains from politically interfering in public officials' promotions, transfers, or appointments, it will decisively intervene when public property is unlawfully or unethically withheld from the citizenry.

Dr. Wijemuni asserted that Ambuluwawa is a national asset belonging strictly to the people of Sri Lanka. He revealed that necessary legal actions have already been set in motion to reclaim the site. To finalize the process, specific cabinet approvals are required, and relevant documents have already been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers within the past two to three weeks. He added that if any further legislative validation or legal framework adjustments are required, the government is prepared to present them to Parliament for approval.

Issuing a firm pledge to the nation, the Deputy Minister assured that the Ambuluwawa reserve will be officially restored to the public within the next few months. He emphasized that this transition will be executed in a manner that meticulously protects the area's rich ecological and environmental value while ensuring complete justice for the local populace.
