The meeting, held at Temple Trees on Monday, focused on Sri Lanka's economic achievements and the next phase of the country's development agenda.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya expressed her gratitude for the IMF's continuous support over the past one and a half years and emphasized the importance of maintaining the strong partnership between Sri Lanka and the IMF.
She noted that Sri Lanka must continue to chart a path toward sustainable growth amid global economic uncertainties. The Prime Minister stressed the need to strengthen the country's resilience to external shocks by prioritizing key sectors such as energy, ports, and agriculture, particularly in response to evolving global trends.
The IMF delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in addressing the challenges posed by global economic uncertainty.
Discussions also focused on promoting trade, attracting investment, strengthening social protection, fostering an inclusive economy, and enhancing infrastructure development. The Prime Minister underscored that economic growth and social protection must advance together, adding that strong public infrastructure including waste management and wastewater systems is essential for achieving sustainable development.
She also highlighted the need to address human resource challenges affecting the efficiency of public service delivery.
The meeting was attended by IMF Asia and Pacific Department Deputy Director Sonali Jain-Chandra, IMF Mission Chief for Sri Lanka Evan Papageorgiou, IMF Resident Representative in Sri Lanka Martha Woldemichael, Prime Minister's Secretary Pradeep Saputhanthri, Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka K.M.A.N. Daulagala, Central Bank officials, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister Sagarika Bogahawatta, and other senior officials.
