According to the British High Commission Colombo, the visit was aimed at enhancing parliamentary cooperation and promoting the exchange of best practices between the legislatures of Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
The Sri Lankan delegation included Members of Parliament Gayantha Karunathilleka, S. M. Marikkar, Jagath Gunawardana, Thushari Jayasingha, Kanthasamy Prabu, Danushka Ranganath, and Ruwan Wijeweera, together with Secretary-General Kushani Rohanadeera and Serjeant-at-Arms Kushan Sampath Jayarathna.
During the programme, the delegation took part in discussions on legislative scrutiny, parliamentary committee procedures, financial oversight, and public accountability. They also observed parliamentary proceedings, including Prime Minister’s Questions, and met with UK parliamentarians, parliamentary officials, and representatives of organisations such as the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka, and the CPA Secretariat.
The British High Commission said the program provided valuable practical experience to support stronger committee oversight, post-legislative scrutiny, and the adoption of more inclusive and modern parliamentary practices in Sri Lanka.
