Colombo's annual inflation, measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI), increased to 6.8% in June 2026, up from 5.5% in May, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.

The latest data showed that food inflation accelerated sharply to 3.6% in June, compared with 0.9% in May, indicating a notable rise in the prices of essential food items over the past month.

The increase in overall inflation reflects continued upward pressure on consumer prices, with food costs contributing significantly to the rise in the annual inflation rate.

The CCPI is a key indicator used to measure changes in the cost of living in Colombo and is closely monitored by policymakers, businesses, and financial markets to assess inflation trends and guide economic policy.
