The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc-André Franche, has announced that an additional US$10 million is planned to support disaster management efforts in Sri Lanka.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Upali Pannilage, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment. World Food Programme Sri Lanka Representative Philip Ward also took part in the discussions.

During the meeting, the UN representatives noted that US$7 million had previously been provided to support disaster management efforts during Cyclone Ditwah. They commended Sri Lanka for the effective use of the funds in restoring the lives and livelihoods of communities affected by the disaster.

The discussions also focused on strengthening future cooperation in disaster preparedness and response, with the planned additional funding expected to further enhance Sri Lanka's disaster management capacity.
