President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to bringing to justice those accused of defrauding the state through corruption, declaring that no offence will be allowed to "be buried in the sands of time."

Addressing Parliament during the Adjournment Debate on combating the drug menace the President said that holding individuals accountable for the misuse of public property has long been a key public expectation and that the current administration is determined to fulfil that mandate.

He emphasised that the Government's objective is to build a "civilised state" based on the rule of law, while making it clear that investigations and legal action would not be driven by personal or political vendettas.

"The Government is committed to ensuring that everyone—from the President to the lowest level of political leadership, and from the Secretary to the President to the most junior public official—becomes a stakeholder in building a civilised state," he said.

President Dissanayake also highlighted the Government's intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and dismantle organised criminal gangs linked to the narcotics trade. He said a series of strong measures had already been implemented and expressed confidence that the country has entered a path toward long-term stability.

On legal reforms, the President announced that the Prevention of Terrorism Act will be repealed before the end of this year, adding that final discussions on the proposed repeal have already been completed.

The remarks underscore the Government's agenda of strengthening governance, tackling organised crime, and advancing legal reforms as part of its broader programme to reinforce public confidence in state institutions.
