Sri Lanka has been awarded the chairmanship of the Asia-Pacific Cooperative Operations Committee (AP-COC) for the 2026–2027 term during the 21st AP-COC Meeting currently being held in Negombo.

The chairmanship was officially conferred on Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, in recognition of Sri Lanka’s growing role in regional aviation cooperation.

The 4th Asia-Pacific Aviation Security Coordination Forum is also being conducted in parallel with the committee meeting.

The 21st AP-COC Meeting and the 14th Asia-Pacific Aviation Security Coordination Forum, which commenced on Tuesday, are being held at the Goldi Sands Hotel in Negombo and will continue until June 26.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Minister Anura Karunatilaka, while the chief guest was Tao Ma, Regional Director for the Asia-Pacific Region. Deputy Minister Ruwan Kodituwakku also attended the event.

More than 80 delegates representing 21 countries are participating in the meetings, which provide a platform for strengthening regional collaboration in aviation operations and aviation security across the Asia-Pacific region.

The events are expected to facilitate greater cooperation among member states and contribute to the enhancement of aviation safety, security, and operational efficiency throughout the region.
