Sri Lanka’s export sector maintained its growth trajectory during the first five months of 2026, with total export earnings exceeding US$7.3 billion, according to figures released by the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka.

The EDB reported that combined merchandise and services exports reached an estimated US$7,393.39 million between January and May 2026, representing a 7.56% year-on-year increase compared to the corresponding period in 2025. The performance highlights the continued resilience of the country’s export sector amid evolving global economic conditions.

According to the data, cumulative merchandise export earnings for the January–May 2026 period totaled US$5,758.44 million, recording a 7.63% growth from the same period last year. The increase reflects steady demand across several key export categories and continued momentum in Sri Lanka’s trade sector.

The positive export performance is expected to support foreign exchange inflows and contribute to broader economic growth, while reinforcing confidence in Sri Lanka’s export competitiveness in international markets.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the latest figures, noting that sustained expansion in both merchandise and services exports will remain critical to strengthening the country’s external sector and supporting long-term economic stability.

The EDB continues to work with exporters and industry partners to expand market access, diversify export products, and enhance Sri Lanka’s presence in global value chains as the country seeks to build on its export growth in the months ahead.
