The protesters claim that authorities have failed to introduce a clear policy or reach a decision regarding the future of the centuries-old fishing practice, leaving many fishing communities facing uncertainty.
Secretary of the All Ceylon Madel Cooperative Association, R.A. Dilruk Fernando, said the demonstration will continue today and tomorrow, while expressing hope that the government will provide a solution to their concerns by Wednesday.
The fishermen are calling for prompt action to ensure the continued operation and protection of the traditional Madel fishing industry.
