Train services had been restricted to the Ambewela–Badulla section after a landslide occurred between the Nanu Oya and Ambewela railway stations, disrupting the route.
The Railway Department stated that repair work on the affected section has now been completed, and a successful trial run was carried out yesterday to confirm the line’s operational readiness.
The restoration project was undertaken by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) in collaboration with private-sector partners under the supervision of the Department of Railways.
With the reopening of the repaired section, regular passenger train services between Nanu Oya and Badulla will be fully restored, re-establishing an important rail connection for commuters and travellers.
