The meeting was chaired by the Chief Registrar of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha, Most Venerable Balapitiye Siriseewali Nayaka Thera, and Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The grand Upasampada ordination ceremony of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya is scheduled to be held from July 09 to 22, 2026, at the Udakukkhepa Seema Malaka established on the Kelani River in Kalutara, with the participation of over 400 novice monks. The State ceremonial event will take place on July 09 at 3.00 p.m. near the Kalutara Bodhiya with the participation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The ceremony, traditionally held once every three years, is being conducted this time after a gap of nine years. It has been organized with State sponsorship following a request made to the President by the Supreme Mahanayake of the Amarapura Maha Nikaya during a New Year meeting earlier this year.
The discussion also focused on ensuring the successful coordination of the event with the support of government institutions, the tri-forces, police, and several private sector organizations under the guidance of the Presidential Secretariat.
Several senior members of the Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha, Members of Parliament, senior government officials, and representatives from the tri-forces, local authorities, and private institutions were also present at the meeting.
