The Health Promotion Bureau has called on the public to take immediate action to prevent the spread of dengue as the number of cases continues to increase across the country.

Issuing a nationwide awareness message, the Bureau urged households and workplaces to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by inspecting their surroundings at least once a week and removing any stagnant water.

The Bureau advised the public to pay close attention to places where water can collect, including flower pots, coconut shells, used tyres, plastic containers, yoghurt cups, bottles, tins, refrigerator trays, buckets, barrels, roof gutters blocked by leaves, and areas within schools and workplaces.

Health officials also cautioned that a fever lasting more than 48 hours should not be ignored, as it may be a symptom of dengue, and stressed the importance of seeking prompt medical attention.

Special emphasis was placed on protecting vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, young children, elderly persons and individuals with chronic illnesses.

The Health Promotion Bureau reiterated that preventing mosquito breeding remains the most effective way to curb dengue, urging the public to maintain clean surroundings to reduce the risk of infection.
