According to reports, Sallay informed his legal counsel during a visit to the hospital that he has no intention of ending the protest or returning to the CID detention facility, which he reportedly described as “hell.” He is also said to have alleged that the CID Director harbours personal hostility towards him.
During the meeting, the lawyer reportedly briefed Sallay on several developments, including matters currently under review by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, the Government’s consideration of repealing the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), and a request submitted to the President by the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter. The lawyer also urged him to end the hunger strike.
Despite the appeal, Sallay is reported to have maintained that he would continue his protest.
Meanwhile, the CID has informed the Human Rights Commission that video footage relating to an alleged physical inspection carried out on March 8 is unavailable, explaining that its surveillance system retains recordings for only one month.
The Human Rights Commission is reportedly exploring the possibility of obtaining external technical assistance to recover the missing footage.
The CID has also been instructed to submit further reports on the ongoing investigation into Sallay by June 26.
