The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, in partnership with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment and the International Labour Organization, officially launched “LankaKonect”, a new mobile application designed to enhance complaint management and improve access to support services for Sri Lankan migrant workers across the globe.

The application was unveiled by Vijitha Herath at a ceremony held in Colombo on Monday. The event was attended by Arun Hemachandra, Joni Simpson, representatives of Sri Lankan diplomatic missions, senior government officials, and development partners. Officials from Sri Lankan missions overseas also participated virtually.

Developed through a collaboration between the ministry, the ILO, and the SLBFE, with technical support from slt.lk LankaKonect provides migrant workers with a centralized digital platform to submit complaints, request assistance, monitor the progress of their cases, and access important information and support services regardless of their country of employment.

The new platform integrates the complaint management systems of the SLBFE, the Consular Affairs Division of the ministry, and Sri Lankan diplomatic missions abroad. This digital integration is expected to strengthen coordination among relevant institutions and facilitate faster, more effective responses to welfare and protection concerns raised by migrant workers.

Speaking at the launch, officials emphasized that LankaKonect represents a significant step toward modernizing migrant worker support services and ensuring that Sri Lankans employed overseas have easier access to assistance when needed.

The initiative reflects the government's ongoing efforts to improve the welfare, protection, and engagement of Sri Lankan migrant workers, who contribute significantly to the country's economy through foreign remittances. The application is expected to enhance transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in handling complaints and service requests from Sri Lankans working abroad.
