New Police Station Facility Officially Opened in Jaffna

The newly constructed building of the Kopay Police Station in Jaffna was officially declared open yesterday ( 14) in the presence of Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala and Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya.

According to the Police Media Division, the new police station has been built at a cost of approximately Rs. 47 million, replacing the previous facility and providing upgraded infrastructure and modern amenities.

Originally established on January 6, 1966, the Kopay Police Station serves an area of 51 square kilometres, covering 27 Grama Niladhari divisions with a population of nearly 64,500.

The police division also includes key educational institutions, including the University of Jaffna and the Jaffna College of Education.

The event was attended by Northern Province Governor Nagalingam Vethanayahan, Members of Parliament representing the Jaffna District, Jaffna District Secretary Maruthalingam Pradeepan, Commander of the Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters Major General Priyantha Navaratne, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Northern Province Buddhika Siriwardena, and several other distinguished guests.
