The decision was conveyed in writing by CID Director Shani Abeysekara to Sallay’s wife, Manori Sallay.
According to reports, Manori Sallay had requested that her husband’s legal counsel, Attorney Asitha Siriwardena, be allowed to meet him five days a week. However, the CID stated that Sallay is currently undergoing medical treatment and is not participating in any active investigative procedures, making daily legal consultations unnecessary at this stage.
The CID further noted that frequent meetings with legal counsel could interfere with the detainee’s recovery by limiting the rest required during his hospitalization and potentially affecting his health.
The department also pointed out that, under an existing court order, Sallay’s lawyer is already permitted to meet him once a week, every Wednesday.
Accordingly, the CID informed Manori Sallay that the current arrangement would remain unchanged, allowing weekly access for legal counsel while continuing to permit daily visits by immediate family members, including his wife, son and daughter.
As a result, the request for additional meetings with his lawyer has been declined.
