Issuing a statement, Jayaweera claimed that Advanced Level candidates would normally have around 26 months to complete the syllabus and prepare for the examination, but the current timetable would shorten that period by nearly six months.
He further pointed out that students in the current batch had already experienced disruptions to their studies due to the adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
Jayaweera criticised the government and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, alleging that insufficient consideration had been given to the challenges faced by this year’s A/L candidates.
He urged the authorities to reconsider the decision and ensure students are provided with sufficient time and support, emphasizing that the Advanced Level examination plays a decisive role in determining their future academic and career opportunities.
