PM discusses indigenous community issues with Wannila Aththo

Indigenous community leader Uruwarige Wannila Aththo met Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya at the Parliament premises today (12).

During the meeting, discussions focused on the challenges faced by indigenous communities, particularly the difficulties encountered in utilizing their traditional lands. Vannila Aththo briefed the Prime Minister on issues affecting indigenous people and their rights to ancestral territories.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized that indigenous communities have the right to enjoy and use their traditional lands without obstruction and stated that the necessary legal processes to safeguard these rights would be expedited.

The indigenous leader also raised concerns about the lack of relief assistance for residents of Hennanigala who were affected by the recent Ditwa cyclone. In response, the Prime Minister immediately instructed relevant officials to ensure that the affected families receive proper relief support.

The discussion further covered shortcomings and infrastructure needs at Dambana School. The Prime Minister assured that the matter would be reviewed and that appropriate measures would be taken to address the issues.
