The decision was announced when the case was taken up today (12) before the Trial-at-Bar bench comprising Judges Priyantha Liyanage, Viraj Weerasooriya and Thilakaratne Bandara, following the conclusion of both oral and written submissions by all parties.
Jayasundara is charged with criminal neglect of duty for allegedly failing to act on intelligence warnings relating to the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
Meanwhile, the parallel case against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, who faces similar charges, was also taken up before the same bench today.
Additional Solicitor General Sudarshana de Silva made submissions on behalf of the prosecution, while Attorney-at-Law Chaminda Athukorala appeared for Fernando. The court directed that the defence’s submissions continue on Monday (15).
Both cases stem from investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
