Worker remittances to Sri Lanka recorded a substantial increase in May 2026, reaching a total of $847 million, according to the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. This marks a significant growth of $205.3 million compared to the $641.7 million received during the corresponding month in 2025.

The upward trend is further reflected in the cumulative data for the year. From January to May 2026, total foreign remittances sent home by migrant workers rose to $3.90 billion.

According to the Central Bank report, this cumulative figure represents a remarkable 26% growth compared to the same period last year. The continuous influx highlights the vital role played by foreign worker remittances in strengthening Sri Lanka's foreign exchange inflows and bolstering the national economy.
