Sri Lankan delegation departs for International Labour Conference

The 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) commenced today in Geneva, Switzerland, and will run until June 12, 2026.
 Representatives from 187 member states have gathered to shape global labor policies under the theme “Advancing Social Justice, Promoting Decent Work. Deliberating on a potential new international standard to govern conditions for gig workers. 

A Sri Lankan delegation led by Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe departed the island yesterday (May 31) to participate in the annual conference of the International Labour Organization.

The delegation also includes Secretary to the Ministry of Labour S.M. Piyathissa and Commissioner General of Labour Nadeeka Wataliyadda.

During the conference, the Sri Lankan representatives are expected to engage in discussions and exchange experiences on international labour standards and labour-related activities with delegates from around the world.

This year's conference is being held under the theme "Advancing Social Justice and Promoting Decent Work." The event is scheduled to conclude on June 12.

The annual conference of the International Labour Organization serves as a key global platform for addressing labour issues, strengthening workers’ rights, and fostering international cooperation on employment and social protection policies.

 Discussing the Director-General's report, “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Decent Work,” to ensure workers' rights are protected. 

Advancing transformative agendas for gender equality in the world of work. 

A tripartite delegation from Sri Lanka including representatives from the government, employers, and workers is actively attending the conference.
