Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) Leader and Parliamentarian Mano Ganesan has requested the Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance (COPF) to investigate claims that funds allocated for Provincial Council Elections were diverted for other purposes.

In a letter sent to COPF Chairman Harsha de Silva on June 1, 2026, Ganesan referred to remarks allegedly made by Tilvin Silva, who stated that money earmarked for Provincial Council Elections had been utilized by the Government for disaster recovery and reconstruction activities.

Ganesan noted that he is unaware of any parliamentary approval being granted to transfer or reallocate the election funds to other expenditure categories.

He further stated that if the comments attributed to Tilvin Silva are accurate, it could raise concerns over the use of public funds without the necessary authorization from Parliament.

The TPA leader has urged COPF to examine the matter, verify whether any reallocation or expenditure of election funds took place outside approved financial procedures, and take appropriate action within its powers if any irregularities are found.
