The “Vesak Bhakthi Gee Saraniya” (Vesak devotional songs program) began at 6:30 p.m. and was attended by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Presidential Secretary Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Director General of Legal Affairs at the Presidential Secretariat J.M. Wijebandara, and Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya, among other distinguished guests.
The devotional music program features performances by bhakthi gee groups from the Tri-Forces, the Sri Lanka Police, and several schools in Colombo. The event will continue daily at 6:30 p.m. until June 2.
Meanwhile, a rice dansala jointly organized by the Presidential Secretariat and the Sri Lanka Army was inaugurated at 7:00 p.m. near the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and senior Army officers.
More than 10,000 devotees and visitors from across the island participated in the event. The rice dansala will remain open until June 2.
An ice cream dansala was also launched yesterday afternoon near the Presidential Secretariat for the benefit of the large number of people visiting Colombo to witness the Vesak festivities.
In conjunction with the “Buddharashmi” Vesak Zone organized by Gangaramaya Temple and the “Bauddhaloka” Vesak Zone, several Vesak-related programs were organized around the Presidential Secretariat with its sponsorship. These included decorative illuminations of the Secretariat building and surrounding structures, Vesak lantern displays, and a range of cultural and religious activities conducted with the participation of the Presidential Secretariat staff.
The celebrations are scheduled to continue through June 2, offering devotees and visitors an opportunity to experience the spirit of Vesak in the heart of Colombo.
