Police have implemented a special traffic management plan today (31 May) until midnight to reduce congestion caused by the large number of people travelling to Dambulla to visit the Vesak Zone being held within the Dambulla Police Division.

According to police, vehicles travelling from Anuradhapura and Habarana towards Kandy and Matale should divert at the Namal Uyana Road near the Dambulla Bus Stand, proceed via the road behind the Economic Centre, and rejoin the main road at Anon Junction before continuing towards Kandy and Matale.

Heavy vehicles arriving from the Matale and Kandy direction are advised to turn at Pannampitiya Junction and travel via the Atha Bandi Wewa Road to Thalakiriyagama Junction, before rejoining the Kurunegala Road and continuing towards Dambulla.

Meanwhile, passenger buses, motorcycles, and light vehicles travelling from Matale and Kandy will be permitted to continue along the Matale–Dambulla Road without diversion.

Police further stated that vehicles approaching from the Bakamuna direction can turn left at the four-way junction near Kandalama Junction and use the alternative route to reconnect with the Kandy–Matale main road.

The temporary traffic arrangement will remain in effect until midnight as authorities seek to ensure smoother traffic flow and public safety during the Vesak celebrations.
