The butterfly park had remained inactive for a considerable period due to poor maintenance and neglect.
The renovation and reopening of the park have been organized to mark World Environment Day. Authorities say the park has been enhanced with specially selected plant species that provide a suitable habitat for butterflies while also creating a more attractive experience for visitors.
Sri Lanka is home to 248 recorded species of butterflies, including 31 species that are endemic to the country. Officials believe the renovated butterfly park will help promote awareness about butterfly conservation and biodiversity among the public.
