A delegation of the Sri Lanka Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus, led by Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj, is currently undertaking an official visit to India from May 10 to 16 at the invitation of the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka.

The visit aims to further strengthen the long-standing parliamentary, cultural, and bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and India, while promoting cooperation in areas related to women’s empowerment, parliamentary affairs, social development, and gender-sensitive governance.

During the visit, the delegation paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi located within the Parliament Complex and held discussions with Om Birla. Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The Sri Lankan delegation also met with officials of India’s Ministry of Women and Child Development for discussions on key social development initiatives.

According to reports, the delegation held productive discussions with India’s Minister of Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi regarding women’s empowerment programmes, child welfare, gender-sensitive policies, and opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange best practices between the two nations.

The growing participation of women in Sri Lanka’s democratic journey reflects an encouraging social transformation. India and Sri Lanka remain connected through deep civilisational bonds, democratic values and enduring people-to-people ties.

Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi India is advancing with the vision of women-led development, where Nari Shakti is a key force of national progress.
