The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has extended the landslide early warning notices issued for 13 districts across the island until 4.00 p.m. today (16).

According to the NBRO, the warnings remain in effect for the districts of Badulla, Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Matara, Monaragala, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura.

Authorities stated that the warnings were extended due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions affecting several parts of the country.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant for signs of possible landslides and earth slips, including cracks appearing on slopes or walls, sinking ground, leaning trees, and sudden emergence of springs or water seepage.

Officials further requested residents living in vulnerable areas to pay close attention to official advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
