Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa says the party is prepared to face any investigation when summoned, insisting that cooperation remains the best way to establish innocence, while urging authorities to ensure that probes are conducted without political influence.

He made these remarks today (2026.05.11) at the SLPP headquarters on Nelum Mawatha, responding to media questions on whether former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) tomorrow.

“We will appear whenever we are called. There is no issue in cooperating with investigations. We believe that is how innocence should be proven,” Rajapaksa said.

However, he cautioned that investigations must be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, claiming that intimidation or pressure would damage public confidence in the process. He said any attempt to influence witnesses or outcomes would be unacceptable.

Rajapaksa also alleged that the current political environment is being used to create narratives that target certain individuals while overlooking other matters of public concern. He claimed this could lead to a distorted public perception if not properly addressed.

He further said that all allegations, regardless of who is involved, should be subjected to equal scrutiny and proper legal procedure.

“We are not against investigations. What we are against is using investigations as a political weapon. If the process is fair, we are ready to fully cooperate,” he added.

Rajapaksa stressed that failure to ensure impartiality could mislead the public and weaken trust in state institutions, adding that accountability must apply equally across all political actors.
