Sri Lanka Police have announced a series of islandwide security and traffic arrangements ahead of the Hajj Festival, which will be observed on May 28, 2026.

According to the Police Media Division, the Inspector General of Police has instructed all police stations to implement enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of Muslim devotees taking part in religious observances across the country.

A coordinated operational plan has been introduced to maintain public order and support the smooth conduct of prayers and religious gatherings at mosques and surrounding areas.

Police officers have been deployed to major mosques and key locations where special Hajj prayers are expected to take place. Authorities have also introduced special traffic management measures to minimise congestion and facilitate the movement of worshippers during the celebrations.

As part of the security programme, mobile patrols as well as foot, bicycle, and motorcycle patrol units will operate in areas with large Muslim communities. Intelligence units have additionally been activated to monitor security developments and assist in preventing potential threats.

Police have requested the public’s cooperation with officers on duty and urged citizens to remain alert during the festive period. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or via emergency hotlines 119 and 118.
